( Again, I tend to talk about things-what-I-do, but not the person-who-does-things-what-I-do ) Sometimes, when I can't seem to drift off, I find odd ways to pass the time late into the night. Cartoons, Wikipedia, TV Tropes, Picture Logic, anything where I can plonk myself down and let my eyes slowly glaze over. Sometimes, though, I come across something gripping and can't seem to pull myself away 'till it's three in the morning, whoops. See, that's precisely why I try not to whip out a good book when it's late at night, but anyway. I spent all night reading a rather engaging Let's Play of Quest 64. Yes, that Quest 64, the poor little N64 RPG that could have been so much, but fell so flat (albeit with a wicked ahoge). Never did beat that game, but then again, I only rented it once, years ago. That Let's Play endeared itself to me, because (aside from the good story) it was an echo of a favoured hobby of mine: taking games with little-to-no-plot and extrapolating. I mean, when you spend hours running around in virtually-featureless fields killing hapless bunny rabbits or whatever low-level monsters are de rigueur for the game at hand, a overactive imagination is all one can use in order to keep their brain from devouring itself out of intense boredom. I largely enjoyed FFI and Etrian Odyssey because of this. Worked on character development while I level grinded; in fact, some of my original characters became far more developed after I named my FFI heroes after them (the dull Red Mage, alas, was simply given a throwaway name and never heard from again. Sweet hat, though). I recommend it to any aspiring writers who don't mind a lengthy RPG (and/or having their rear ends soundly kicked by F.O.E.s, if we're talking Etrian Odyssey). Anyway. What was I going on about? Oh yes, crackin' fun Let's Play, reminded me of a detective story I plotted out during NaNo (only with less detecting, more magic, and 48% more ridiculous hairs). Very nice, how they worked in that ARRRRGH Blue Cave. I couldn't possibly think of anything more fitting. Sun, Dec. 13th, 2009, 10:42 pm

A majority of the ones from Ghostbusters. "We came, we saw, WE KICKED ITS ASS!" Ray: Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here. Walter Peck: They caused an explosion! Mayor: Is this true? Peter: Yes it's true. [pause] Peter: This man has no dick. Thu, Dec. 10th, 2009, 04:56 pm
Nearly all of my role models, if you'd call them that, are fictional; in regards to the world around me, I've never quite had anyone to look up to. Although, "role model" might be misleading. I wouldn't want to base myself entirely around another character's example, because I am me, after all. Yotsuba's arguably the most obvious candidate. One should try to look at the world as a fun place, filled with opportunities and excitement. I often think of her when I get upset about something, too - I imagine the sort of reaction she would have, complete with ridiculous expression, and realize that I'm probably getting worked up about nothing, and that I should be able to handle it. What advice would she give me? Probably something like "Huh? I don't get it. Can't you just go out and make friends?" ( I look up to all sorts, but further elaboration has been cut in the name of space. As you were. ) I had perhaps the greatest voice acting session ever yesterday. I got to sing! Oh, baby! And, dare I say it, I think our rendition of the song in question is even better than the original Japanese. We had funky vocal harmonies, doo-wops, and simply a more varied, interesting sound overall. Of course, the song itself isn't a big deal, just a one-episode thing, but recording it was so much more fun than it had any real right to be. I was with two other girls, who both had terribly cute voices, by the by. I thought I sounded so strange in comparison, but the director said we all sounded great. My singing voice, when I'm in a comfortable range, is a little deeper than you'd think it'd be, while theirs was slightly higher-pitched and "poppier". At least my fears of being singled out as the weakest link ("Gee, Morgan, I thought you said you could sing, but obviously not") were completely unwarranted. Yes, I am paranoid, what are you going to do? The song's gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the week, I can guarantee. Ahh, I wish I could sing like that more often! I'm the world's biggest ham, that I am. Someone, quick, let's make a musical anime so I can help dub it! (Full Moon doesn't count as one, 'cause she only sings like six songs that are endlessly repeated over 52 episodes, and they weren't even dubbed) Along with recording solo lines, me and the other two girls also did some walla (a.k.a. group recording, like a crowd's conversations and such). Nearly ever time I do walla, it winds up being hysterical in some way. I don't know about other shows, but whenever I'm there, I try to work in weird lines whenever possible, and the other girls were apparently fond of the same M.O. We snuck some good ones in there, but the best was probably one scene of schoolgirls tittering in the classroom. For one of the takes, one girl said "I have something to confess to you guys. I have dandruff." and me and the other girl just cracked up completely and spent about a minute doubled over, laughing. I suppose you'd have to be there, but it was just so bizarre and unexpected that we couldn't help ourselves. Later, I found out Mr. Director didn't even hear her say that, so until I explained why, he thought we had just burst into guffaws for no sensible reason. Sure, we looked crazy, but it was worth it! Off I go - my brother has a band concert tonight, and then I have to work (Starbucks work, blast it) tomorrow morning. Best make sure I dress obscenely warm, since they love sticking me in the chilly DT. |
